Hi,A while ago, I bought a Plantronics DSP-300 USB headset for use with games in Windows. Mods para bully scholarship edition. However, when I moved to Linux, I could never get it working.
The only vaguely informative thing I found on Google was a 'plantronics headset quirk' or similar being added in kernel 2.5.something (I was using 2.4 at the time). I now want to use it with UT2004 but still can't get it working with 2.6. OK, I compiled a new 2.6.5 kernel (though I know I had usb-audio in the old one.) and it seems to work fine now.
My /etc/modules.d/alsa is correct, and it uses the headset if alsa is started while it's plugged in, and it uses my normal card if it isn't plugged in while alsa is started. Anyway, when the headset is plugged in I have two DSP devices in /dev. So is there a way to switch between the headset and speakers, or better, use them both together, without logging in as root to restart alsasound? Thanks! How did I get my Plantronics DSP 300 to work on Suse10.1I installed Suse10.1 from the installation DVD.I tried running Skype and listening to some music via Amarok but nothing came out of my headset and the mic did not seem to work.I previously had it working with Suse9.3 so I knew it was possible. It seemed at first that there was a hardware conflict. My DSP 300 device was correctly detected and configured but would not work at all.It came as a pair of devices: /dev/dsp and /dev/dsp2Where was /dev/dsp1 gone? When I got the problem, I had three audio devices:hw:0 VIA 8235hw:1 MPU-401hw:2 USB AUDIOI tried reconfiguring the whole lot:1.login as root2.run alsaconf from console3.let alsaconf automatically configure the audio card (choose the VIA 8235 driver)4.test it.
Should hear the test sample5.if it works it has got rid of everything else6.now reconfigure the Audio card in Yast7.run Yast Config centre for Audio Devices - had to re-configure the audio card. Use defaults8.the MPU-401 had disappeared and I did not want it configured again so I didn't do anything for it.9.unplugged and re-plugged the Plantronics headset which this time appeared as dsp and dsp1No need to do anything else since it then worked. So now I have the following Audio Devices:0: VIA 8235 (DUPLEX)1: USB AUDIO (DUPLEX)SETUP for Skype:Use /dev/dsp1SETUP for Amarok:Use hw:1.
