  • Wow, this is why we need firefighters
Sorry you had to go thru that, and loose everything. So you exited and saved, before going to the main menu?
I haven't had a fire in my game in a very long time *knocks on wood*
  • My younger sister lost her Gothic Sim in a kitchen fire - despite having both the sprinkler system and fire detector!
What are we supposed to do during a fire? Just sit back and watch?
What REALLY makes it sad was, she was playing a brand new Sim in a brand new game! This poor Sim didn't live more than about two Sim hours (maybe since the welcome wagon just left).
It took my sister about 2 hours in CAS to get her look just right. Another 1 1/2 to 2 hours building the house (she doesn't buy 'premade' houses). And only took a few minutes for it ALL to go up in flames!
I 100% agree with @charlotteprice ! We need Fire Fighters! Even if it's like in Sims1 with one guy carrying a fire extinguisher, at least it would be SOMETHING!

  • I have found that if you cancel out 'Fire!' panic in their activity queue, it makes it much easier to then click the fire and get the extinguish option to put it out. Hope this helps.
  • I feel like doing a complete Sim meltdown/crying jag.. my sim went to visit her family (who live on another lot). She hadn't even knocked on the door when they came pouring out because of a fire on the lot.
I hadn't saved before she went there and now she's been stuck there for over 8 hours while the house is burning away. argggh
I had to just exit to main menu and loose everything. Would have liked to have seen how much her family lost in the fire!
This is the second time I've had a fire that just won't go out. First time it was a tent that caught fire, the grass burnt she lost her whole campsite, and she couldn't put it out, neighbours came running over and caught fire. Was quite interesting but frustrating.

Sounds like the type of fun I would like to see. Never had that happen while visiting other Sims. You can just go out into manage worlds, and then right back into the game and see if it jars anything, and if you have mods or cc it may be part of the problem because normally some of the Sims will try to put out the fires themselves. In TS4 you actually have to cancel Sims from putting out fires so I would check for mods and cc causing your problem (if you have any didn't read whole thread) and or repair your game on Origin.

  • I've had two big fires in my game recently and loved them. One I let just happen and it burned for hours. I could have had my sims put it out but I decided to spectator sport it out. They had no cooking skills and it was that outside grill. Complete surprise to me.
The other was while visiting the Roomies family. They have the sprinkler but the stove still burned up and Zoe was charred . everyone was miserable. it was great.
I do hope we get firefighters eventually as long as they are only called by a fire alarm or phone call.
For now you have to play within the game mechanics. Get your sims good cooking skills. Don't use that cheap grill under any circumstances if they have no skill lol. Don't use the incense for long periods. (at least thats been an easy fire for me in the past). Put out the fire yourself. Get the sprinkler (it does usually work) or save often enough so that you can exit the game if something happens that you don't like.

This is why I upload all the sims and buildings I make to my library. If something happens, I don't have to remake them.

There are quite a few options unavailable during a fire event.
I'm fairly certain going into manage worlds is one of them.

Did she have the sprinkler system placed on the same floor of the fire (if indoors) or on the outside of the building? Did she have the detector in the room the fire started in? Did the room the fire started in have a ceiling?
If the answer to any of these was 'no' that would be why it didn't work.
If the answers to all of these were 'yes' then it sounds like a bug and should be reported.

  • I once installed a mod that made fires scarier because I wanted more excitement. I paused my game while I went to take a shower. My cat likes to sit on my keyboard when I'm not using it, and when she was getting on, she managed to unpause the game. I came back and there was this HUGE fire. All but one of my sims died trying to fight the fire except for one, an elder, before I quit without saving.
I uninstalled that mod really fast. Worked a bit too well.
Just a little bean whose only aspiration in life is becoming a magical girl.
  • I'm sorry this happened in your game, but it does make it more exciting.
Summer Holiday and her room mates were the welcome wagon with my very first family in this save and they all turned up all dirty and exhausted. i'm wondering if they had a fire, soon after arriving Summer left saying she had a private emergency going on, she was doing the pee walk, but that was after she had a bath in my sims bath. lol I must go check on their house. It all adds to the drama which I think is lacking a little.
  • this is my worst nightmare when it comes to Sims 4. I'm terrified that a fire will get out of control and everything burns down and my sims die. Yes, we really do need firefighters.

  • This happened to me yesterday. I had no idea it was a possibility! One Sim died and had the Grim Reaper appear. One of my favorite Sims, Rose Wonder, was in the process of dying when I quickly exited. I lost all the progress I had made that day with one Sim who became best friends with the Hermit of Granite Falls and learned the secret recipe. It will be worth doing all of that over to save Rose and Samuel. Now I am obsessively installing sprinklers and alarms in every house!
