How to make a 'Mod'This is one way to make a mod(or modification) for the computer game, Diablo II, and for its expansion pack, Lord of Distruction. The purpose of a Mod is to change the game in some way. You can add to the game, or alter almost any element of game play. For example:You can make a monster stronger, increase the power of a weapon, skill or spell, increase experience points given to a character per monster, or even add new weapons orarmor. This makes the game play differently, giving new life to an old game.I'm going to walk you through this, step by step.First, go to the site:and download the following tools from the 'Tools of the Trade' section:. The Diablo II 109 patch or the Lord of destruction 109 patch. This will update your game. This is also the main file that you will be altering.
MPQ2K. MPQ View. D2Excel.(Optional. If your system doesn't have Microsoft Excel, use this tool in its place.). Baron Darkstorm's Table editor (tbled).
Download the 109 txt files from this section. (Optional, but very helpful)That should do it for your downloads. Now you're almost ready to modify the patch file.Next, unzip the downloads except for the patch (it's an exe file). After that, go into your Diablo 2 folder. Copy the file named 'Patchd2.mpq'. Paste it the mpqview folder.
Start MPQView. Now, select 'File'. Select 'Open Data File', and open the data file named 'Full Data File for 109d'. You don't need 109d, but the patch must be 109 through 109d. This will give you what you need. Now, click on 'Open archive'. It may take awhile, but it's loading. A window will pop up.
It will ask you to select the file you want to open. Open 'Patchd2.mpq'. After it's done loading the file, select the txt file you want to modify. For the purposes of this tutorial, we will select 'weapons.txt'. Click on 'dataglobalexeclweapons.txt'. Then click on save.

Then close the window.Next, open your 'Start' menu and click on 'Run'. Click on 'Browse' and go into your Diablo 2 folder. Click on the icon that is named 'Diablo 2', then click open.
Now double click on the end of the name. Then type the following: '.txt'. Then click ok.The game will start. Continue a game or start a new one. Once it's done loading, press 'esc', then click 'save and exit'.
After that, shut down Diablo 2. Then go back into the Diablo 2 folder and go into 'data', then into 'global', then into 'excel'.When you're in 'Excel' you will notice alot of files have appeared.
